An Apple A Day…

vinegar_and_honey“An apple a day keeps the Dr away?” Ever heard that saying? Well, from what I’ve been reading recently, it’s pretty true. Especially if you take it in the form of organic, natural, unfiltered and unpasteurized apple cider vinegar. ‘The crud’ is making it’s way through our household. Of course I posted about it on Twitter and thanks to a Tweet Tip from @sarahtolson, yesterday I went to our local grocer and picked up some of the vinegar and a jar of raw honey. then mixed it up with 8oz of water, drank it down….and gagged.  But, I began research on the internet only to find the concoction is supposedly good for about anything that ails you.
so, i took it again this morning. If it even does half the things that are promised, i’ll be good to go.

Do you have any natural remedies that you swear by?

i love apples so i should do that!! except i don’t get sick all that often… :)

  • Keith says:

Hope you do get better soon! Vinegar, happens to suck, and I can remember my om forcing me to drink the stuff-*groans!*
Anyways… Wanted to let you know that I purchased a coppy of your “Perfect People” album. Quite a fantastic song, especially the first line: “There’s no such thing as perfect people.”
Where did you come up with that?

  • Lisa Mongold says:

Does it help with sinuses? My sinuses are a wreck and I’m feeling it today. Chicagoland weather and seasons are not great for allergies and such. I need to move to Colorado Springs.

  • Staci says:

ACV is great for clearing out a sinus infection. If you can gag it down without diluting it, it seems to be more efficient.

We also do raw garlic. It’s anti-bacterial, anti-microbial, and anti-viral, among other things. When we get the “crud”, we go through several bulbs of garlic a week!

It’s difficult when you sing and you aren’t feeling well, especially when you feel something “coming on”, like a cold…. I usually drink hot water with lemon and honey and it really helps. The lemon cleanses any excess mucous, the honey soothes the throat and the hot water opens up the nasal passages.

When my energy is low, I occasionally drink a small bottle of Tropicana Apple Juice, about 30 minutes to an hour before I sing, it seems to energize me when I’m not functioning up to par. This brand seems to work the best of all I’ve tried and it’s not too harsh on the throat.

    Hi Natalie
Just wanted to stop in and say
it was nice to meet you on Saturday.
Your girls are precious and totally made me laugh
I think my favorite part was all of Bella’s sweet
    snuggles – precious :)

I told my husband they made my ovaries hurt
and now I am wanting a little girl – bows, cute shoes,
little dresses and all – LOL

Thank you for sparing Abby for a few hours – it was so nice to be
able to catch up with her. She is such a sweet and wonderful
    friend.

Romans 15:13 “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit”

May God continue to bless you and your family,
    Kim

My mom takes a glass of water with a tsp of ACV and drinks it everyday. She swears that is helps almost anything. I think it tastes gross but at least it is watered down!!!

  • Christina says:

I have heard that honey is good for a lot of things. When my son was sick (he’s under two), and had a cough/sore throat, the pediatric nurse suggested that I give him honey as “cough medicine” (remembering that the child needs to be over 12m to be able to handle honey) – he loved it, and it did seem to calm him.

Since then, I’ve been waiting for a cold of my own to try it out on myself, but PTL I haven’t had one!

  • Jacqui says:

Aw that sounds horrible! I hope it works and that you feel better soon!!
Home remedies…I think the only ones my family really uses are gargling with warm salt water (just normal table salt, in water, not the stuff from the ocean!) for a sore throat. Also lavender massage oil for period pain (…but obviously, put it wherever it hurts, you don’t drink that!)

  • *RACH* says:

i am not sick very often so i don’t have anything i swear by, but i may have to here soon everyone at my school is getting sick, even my sister. i hope you all get better and i’ll let you know if i come up with anything.

  • Mandy says:

well, that’s no good. but it is good that you found a cure. ( even if it’s a little icky sounding )
yeah, my family swallows raw garlic to kill a cold. ( it’s nasty, seriously, but it really works! )

  • I just had to comment on this… I was getting a pretty bad cold/throat thing that my husband had just gotten over. I looked up what to do to help my throat feel better. I felt horrible – headache, throat, tired, etc. – but I thought I’d take the ACV & honey in warm water then go to bed. I took a sip and immediately it helped my throat. Then I realized I didn’t feel so bad. I took some Gelsenium for my headache & I felt completely better, with just a little sniffle! I really felt like God healed me & he used the ACV/honey mix to help it. So yeah, I recommend the concoction too!

  • Sarah Tolson says:

Natalie!! Yay… thanks for the shout out girl! :)

I know it is so hard to drink, but it really works. I have stories.. :) I try to make as little as possible (i.e. not so much water) so I don’t have to drink a ton of it. And, add more honey if you need to.

Love your music.. can’t wait for your new CD. Next time you are in San Diego, hit me up for a complimentary family portrait session! :) Fo sho!! ;)

  • Laura says:

My mom always gave us warmed honey mixed with lemon juice. I think it tastes better than the stuff you’re taking. Vinegar, no matter how you disguise it, tastes nasty.

    Hope you’re feeling better soon.

  • Simone says:

I have done the Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar and honey but I totally swear by GSE and Oil of Oreganol. GSE (brand and stands for Grapefruit Seed Extract). Two drops of Oil of Oreganol and 12 drops of GSE in a small glass of warm water. Gargle it down and as nasty as it is, you will feel better immediately. Your throat will definitely feel better. I didn’t know about it until I had a bout of strep that wouldn’t go away. I went to the health food store and it was recommended. Within a day, I was feeling better.

Hope you and Bella are feeling better soon!

  • Thanks for sharing that remedy. It doesn’t sound too “tasty” but if it works, why not?

We like to drink carrot juice daily to help boost your immune system – look at it as prevention.

  • Megan says:

When I take the ACV my allergies clear up like magic! I just have a hard time making myself gag it down every day. It’s easier if you pinch your nose and don’t smell it then chase it with a HUGE glass of water.
