Time To Pray

praying-child

1 Timothy 2:2 says, “Pray for rulers and for all who have authority so that we can have quiet and peaceful lives full of worship and respect for God.

On January 20, 2009, Barack Obama will be sworn in to office. Regardless of your political views, it’s time to pray.

Author/Pastor Max Lucado has come up with an awesome idea. He has started the Pray For Obama initiative. Please visit maxlucado.com/president and sign your name. Then on January 20, 2009–inauguration day–set aside some minutes to pray for our incoming President. Ask God to inspire, direct and protect him. Pray for his wife and daughters. Use your worship time, family time and private time to ask God’s blessings on Barack Obama, Joe Biden, and all the men and women who serve and lead our country.

Ask your family, friends and church to join you. Because it’s time to pray.

Regardless of political views, Americans should pray for their leaders. However, it has become the trend over the last few decades to let political opinion influence your love and respect for fellow man, and other children of God. I am honored to have signed my name to that list of prayer warriors for Obama, because he’s going to need all the prayers we can give him in these tough times!

Natalie, thank you for bringing light to the issue! I’m glad the website had tips for how to pray for Barack Obama.

This is awesome! I will definitely be involved. It has been funny to me how in evangelical circles they are so quick to pray for George Bush but haven’t heard as much talk about them about praying for Obama. I am glad that my church hasn’t taken that stance. We pray every Sunday for our leaders regardless of our political persuasions!

I am glad that this sentiment is still in tact especially from a Christian who is the spotlight (not to mention a role model of mine!). A lot of Christians let politics sway what they believe God’s will is when in fact God’s will is that the person elected to office is there for a reason that is greater than us.

i have hard enough time praying not to mention for someone like him….but i will try.
you have a great heart. thank you for this blog! it is so encouraging :)

so i definatly agree, so i signed my name (twice, on accident). prayer is the only thing we can do, and giving up control to God is the only way we can rely and trust in Him during these times that impact the world. this year, im trusting that God will be known in this generation – no matter who is president. im trusting that God will use me in all the ways He has planned – no matter what goes on in the news. im trusting that God will provide and protect our nation and ultimatly our world. prayer sounds great, thanks natalie.

My birthday is January 21st! (Just thought I would throw that in there) And I’ll definitely be praying.

What a good idea. Actually, I prayed a little while ago today for Obama…even though I’m not American. I just felt that maybe he could use some prayer.

My birthday is actually on the 20th so it’s a good way for me to remember to pray for Obama that day!

  • Joy

I’ll definitely pray for our incoming president! He (and the country) will need God in order to fix this mess. I’ve been praying for him and his family, but I’ll pray extra hard on January 20th.

OMgoodness!! I love Max Lucado! I read his books all the time. I love to pray for problems a lot of times. I’ll pray for our president, Barack Obama, and that he’ll try to make the right decisions.

  • Sharon

Yes we need to pray for our president & everyone of them in office. Pray for President Obama’s 1st 100 days in office. To help fix this country.
